I’ve been “jillianlovesdogs” pretty much my whole life. Shout out to 10-year-old me for picking a banger of a username for my first email. I was campaigning my parents to get us a dog at the time. Eventually I won them over and Scout joined our family

I grow Mammoth Sunflowers every summer. They’re my favorite flower. I mean, how could a sunflower the size of a dinner plate not bring a smile to your face :)

I spend my free time raidleading in World of Warcraft. For those who’ve wisely avoided that particular rabbit hole, it means I spend my weekends trying to get 20 people—each with their own schedules, opinions, snacks, and attention spans—to do a synchronized dance through boss fights designed to punish even the slightest misstep.

Raidleading is somewhere between stage managing a chaotic musical and teaching cats to line dance. I make spreadsheets, call out timers, remind folks to eat their virtual food, and occasionally mediate heated debates about who gets which best-in-slot trinket.

It’s absurd and unpredictable and somehow the highlight of my week. Because when we finally pull it off—after the wipes, the late-night theorycrafting, the one guy who swears he was lagging—it feels like magic. Collaborative, ridiculous, hard-earned magic.
